The Pharmacy Technology Program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as pharmacy technicians. Working under the supervision of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians assist in preparing and dispensing medications to patients. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills required for both outpatient (retail) & inpatient (hospital) pharmacy settings, essential pharmacy calculations and pharmacology through classroom instruction and simulated labs.
The program also includes a Pharmacy Clinical Experience course, providing students with hands-on experience in a pharmacy environment. Before beginning the externship, students are required to complete a background check and drug test, with clear results necessary to proceed.
Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) and apply for a Pharmacy Technician License. It's important to note that the California Board of Pharmacy may deny licensure for individuals with convictions substantially related to pharmacy practice.
