The Aeronautics Department at San Bernardino Valley College is proudly undergoing a renaissance—expanding from its foundation as a premier aircraft maintenance program into a comprehensive aviation education center that serves the full spectrum of aviation careers.

Students can pursue an Associate of Science degree or certificates in Aircraft Maintenance Technology (Airframe and Powerplant) through our FAA Part 147-approved Aviation Maintenance Technician program, which continues to serve as the cornerstone of our department and prepares graduates for high-demand careers as FAA-certificated A&P technicians.

Building on this strong technical foundation, the Aeronautics Department now also offers a Flight Operations – Professional Pilot Certificate and Associate Degree pathway, supported through a newly established Part 141 flight school partnership. This provides students with structured, high-quality flight training as they work toward their pilot certificates and ratings.

In addition, SBVC Aeronautics has been approved as an Air Traffic Control College Training Initiative (AT-CTI) Basic Endorsed School—offering coursework designed to prepare students for future roles within the National Airspace System as air traffic controllers.

The department is also developing curriculum in unmanned aircraft systems (drones), reflecting the evolving landscape of aviation careers.

Whether pursuing aviation maintenance, professional piloting, air traffic control, or drone operations, students benefit from hands-on training, industry-aligned instruction, and a program deeply connected to workforce needs. Those interested in transferring to a four-year institution or seeking specific licenses or ratings are encouraged to meet with Aeronautics faculty and/or a counselor to explore transfer pathways and program requirements.

Graduates of the SBVC Aeronautics program are well-prepared for employment across airlines, maintenance repair organizations, flight operations, government agencies, and other aviation and aerospace sectors.
